Let me explain something: I DON'T RUN. I hate running and jogging. I'm not against sprinting, but that's a completely different animal. I am one of the few trainers on the face of the planet who doesn't make clients run. I think there are far better ways to burn fat than jogging laps on a track.
Anyhow, I've been asked for years to do a 5K, and I've never done one. However, this weekend I participated in the Pink Power Run. It is the first 5K I've ever done and it was great fun. I had a blast.
No, I did not run. Ok, I'm fibbing a bit. My 5k partner, Baleigh, an awesome young lady, and I ran out of the gate, and we ran the last leg in, but we walked the rest of the course on Georgia Southern University's campus.
The walk brought back many memories since I attended GSU many years ago. It was really beautiful, and with the students off for the day, it was effortless to maneuver across the campus.
We finished in 50 minutes. No, we were not the fastest, and our time was demolished by a woman running with a stroller, and a baby on her hip- yes, on her hip- but we did finish!
I will use these quotes for several articles on running a 5K once I have collected several responses. Thank you for participating in this 5K Questionnaire.
Thank you for sharing!
Running a half marathon at any age is an accomplishment, and completely feasible at 50. In fact, there are many 50-year-old men in better shape at 50, than when they were in their 30's. However, there are a few tips to help you ease into running a half marathon at 50.
There are negative aspects of running that many people would prefer not to be part of. There are shin splints and blisters, but on the other hand, running is one way for people to do something for themselves, by themselves or with a group that achieves a sense of accomplishment.
If you're just beginning any sort of exercise or running program, you'll need to choose the proper shoes for your journey. Sneakers, which are the best choice for working out and running, are difficult to choose since each have a snazzy outer shell. Bright colors or cool options are not what is important, though. You may want your shoes to look good, but the most important aspect is that they fit your feet properly and offer you the most support.
Whether you are new or a seasoned runner, there are injuries that can occur. Several types of injuries can effect different areas of your body and will determine if you need to take a break from running.
While there are droves of injuries that can happen, some stand out as the most common. Lower leg, skin, bone and ligamanet damage are caused by the repetitive nature of running and have a tendency to take place with casual to athletic runners.
