Let's get social!

Early one morning, I ran out of the house for coffee and a brownie (shhhh...don't tell anyone) at my local 7-Eleven. It was 5:50 a.m. and I caught the tail end of a promotional piece on 98.7 about  SKINNY D™ . I was intrigued because  SKINNY D™   is a weight loss program that promotes itself by targeting high fructose corn syrup. If you're interested keep reading.

SKINNY D™

Picture
Let me begin by saying there is not much information on this product, and could not find anything in the National Institutes of Health, or American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Most of the information offered comes directly from Dr. Newton's Naturals which launched Dr. Agins  SKINNY D™   product in 2011.

The name SKINNY D™   is derived from the basis that the product was initially created for diabetics.

According to the website high fructose corn syrup is in nearly every food we eat, and one of the biggest causes for not being able to lose weight. It is also a reason for other health issues.

From Dr Newtons.com

"Sugar. Read most any product label in your home – from soft drinks to infant formula – and you'll find high-fructose    corn syrup at the top of the ingredient list. A cheap form of sugar, high-fructose corn syrup is processed to the point that your body cannot efficiently use it as an energy source. High-fructose corn syrup is instead transformed directly into fat. (To multiply the problem, this sweetener also tricks you into consuming more empty-calorie foods than you need!) The natural ingredients in SKINNY D™ help break your yearning for sweets — whilesupporting the body’s healthy cellular response to insulin and reducing the glycemic effect of meals."

"Starvation. Other weight loss products simply limit your intake of food. At the same time they actually starve your body of the proteins, vitamins and essential plant fibers it needs.  SKINNY D™ users on the other hand actually enjoy an increase in protein intake — while feeling full and energized. This can lead to more lean muscle mass plus a smaller waist size!"

SKINNY D™    is A  Meal Replacement drink

The product itself is a meal replacement drink that contains 10 calories per serving. In each serving there is only 2 grams of sugar. It was developed to deliver specific nutrients to your body to reduce sugar cravings regardless of anyone's medical history.

Dr. Agins created  SKINNY D™  as a way to help pre-diabetics and diabetics. It was also a way to reduce eating excessive amounts of processed foods--high in artificial sweeteners--which puts people at a higher risk of diabetes.

This is not an Endorsement or recommendation

Please be aware that I am not endorsing or recommending Dr. Agin's  SKINNY D™.  When writing my article I could find no research on the product other than what was written by the Skinny D. website. There are many reviews, but they are also the reviews that lead directly to the site. I do not know if these are paid reviews in favor of the product; which is common for websites to attract consumers.

Are you saying this product has been around for a year and a half and there are NO reviews available? That sounds very fishy. There must be some people out there that have tried it and have something to say.

When I wrote this, there was nothing that didn't lead back to the actually Skinny D site.

I thought it interesting that I couldn't find other reviews, as well.

I could not find a single piece of research on this product nor were the contents listed anywhere. Strange that 20 calories could replace a PROPER MEAL NOT CONTAINING CORN SYRUP PRODUCTS OR ADDITIVES.

Yeah this is very strange so I said what the heck I'll buy it and see what I think. NASTY lol. I even added a little sugar to disguise the taste. It's a brown color liquid you mix with 16-32 ounces of water and sip for 2 to 3 hours. Let's see I'm on hour 3 of 'sipping' and I'm hungry lol but to be fair I started it around 3pm but for me this is when I want the carbs. So far all I have is gas from it. I'll stick it out for a week and report back
Ingredients straight from the bottle: There a literally over a 1000 listed here but here's some highlights

Thanks for the update.

I did go back to the website to make sure though, and added the link that says it's a meal replacement. If it's not, that's something they need to change on their site so there is no confusions.

OK folks, I heard the commercial on the radio one morning. I am over weight, and I have high blood pressure, for which I take meds for.I do work out 3 to 4 times a week, but my eatting habits are terrible. So I purchased Skinny D, it arrived today. I'm gonna try it tomorrow, I'll report my findings.

OK, so I tried this for a month and felt so silly.
If you set your mind to replace a meal a day with anything that you drink, as long as what you drink to replace that meal is not a glass of something very fattening and loaded with sugars, you will most likely lose some weight.
I tricked myself into replacing a mean by drinking a 32oz. of water mixec with sugar free lemon-lime flavoring instead of lunch for another month and BINGO, it worked just the same as with Skinny D and I lost even more weight! The only thing us I started taking a multi vitamin every day and I'm saving a few Dollars, too!
No more high blood pressure and I now weigh 140Lbs., only 10 more pounds to go for my goal. I will have to keep an eye on what I eat when I reach my goal as I have a tendency to gain weight very easily.

Steve, you are absolutely on the right track. Drinking more water will keep you fuller. Also, with calories reduction and increasing exercise you'll have great benefits.

Agin's product doesn't seem to be necessarily bad-- but it works because people are always trying to find the easy way out. It's much easier to take a pill or drink than it is to actually work out or eat properly.

Congratulations on your weight loss, and best of luck with reaching your new goals!

I have been using this product for 4 days, it has done a great job reducing my cravings, but now I am starting to notice lower intestinal issues. I really want to continue using this, but I will not be able to if this continues. Has anyone else had these issues?

I just started today and my goal is 20 lbs. I'll let you know in two weeks. The rep told me I could keep doing what I have been doing that no increase in exercise is necessary.

I heard the commercial about a month ago and decided to try some of the diet changes without using the product, eat less grains and processed foods, whole fruits instead of juice, and more water. I lost about 5 pounds, but my cravings for sweets and other carbs were still there, I did not stick with it and gained the weight back so I decided to give the product a try. Also the add says it will help reduce inflammation of joints. Pain has been keeping me from getting the exercise that need. I'll let you know how it works for me.

I have been using the skinnyd for 2 days. Not as a meal replacement but a supplement. The directions do not say anything about meal replacement, but the catalog that comes with it does. I definitely have more energy to exercise and have been able to cut back on sweets.

For the people having intestinal "issues", it contains aloe and magnesium which can have a laxative effect if taken in large doses. I've been using this for about two weeks and have noticed that I'm not as hungry as I normally would be and have not had any GI issues. It's difficult for me to say how much weight (if any) I've lost due to this product since I am postpartum but I feel that it is effective as an appetite suppressant, without allowing my blood sugar to drop suddenly.
